We would very much welcome an enquiry on your behalf to consider joining us at the lodge. You may simply have some more questions to ask in the first instance, but remember that Freemasonry admits men from all walks of life, and certainly does not discriminate on the grounds of ethnicity, disability, politics or religion.
Freemasonry is a male-only society, focused on three core principles: respect, truth and charity. Freemasonry is an enjoyable pastime for men to meet, make friends and acquaintances of varied interests and backgrounds and raise money for deserving causes.
The values of freemasonry are based on integrity, kindness, honesty, fairness and good citizenship. Freemasonry is one of the world’s oldest and largest non-religious, non-political, fraternal and charitable organisations. Members are expected to be of high moral standing and are encouraged to speak openly about Freemasonry. Masonic values are imparted by a series of ritual ‘dramas’ which are learned by heart and performed following ancient forms and using stonemasons’ customs and tools allegorically.
Freemasonry has been in existence for over 300 years. There are many thousands of lodges spread right across the world, and there are millions of Freemasons. One of the joys of being a Freemason is being able to visit or join many other lodges to meet others. A true old saying is “there are no strangers in freemasonry, only friends you haven’t yet met”.
Becoming a Freemason is not at all difficult, but it does require that its members believe in a Supreme Being. It is open to men (over 21) of all faiths and creeds. Freemasonry does not discriminate on the grounds of ethnicity, disability, age, politics, religion or sexual orientation. And if you are new to freemasonry and want to find out more, check out this video, United Grand Lodge of England’s website, or contact us with your questions.
